ORGANIC DENTISTRY MEETS AESTHETIC ARTISTRY

Posted on: May 18th, 2012 by Respect Your Mouth No Comments

MODERN TECHNOLOGY MEETS AESTHETIC DENTISTRY

Traditional thinking would have this tooth with a full porcelain fused to metal crown leaving an ugly grey margin at the gum line on a front tooth. How ugly would that be if you smiled?

This tooth had leaky resin filling with a cavity that replaced an old silver mercury filling in the past. How 1980!

Here we left the front of the tooth in tact and left a beautiful tooth to smile with. We replaced only the bad area in the back of the tooth. It Looks great and patient is very pleased

Get Your Floss on! Don’t let this happen to you!!!

Posted on: May 8th, 2012 by Respect Your Mouth No Comments

This is a great article on the 6 things not to do when it comes to your heart. On the list is forgetting to floss. As a profession, dentistry has known for many years that not flossing is closely related to heart disease, strokes and heart attacks. If you don’t floss it is estimated you are more likely to have gum disease and 50% more likely to have a heart attach. Studies are showing that stages of gum disease as early as gingivitis may cause irreversible damage to your heart!

Laser Dentistry in Gum Disease Treatment

Are you experiencing bleeding gums?

Lasers are used in dentistry to treat moderate to severe cases of gingivitis and periodontal disease. It’s modern, efficient and comfortable.

A small fiber optic cable about the size of 3 strains of hair in diameter are slipped between the tooth and the gum, an impulse is sent to the diseased area and the bacteria is killed,  the necrotic diseased tissue is removed leaving behind the healthy gums to rejuvenate and heal. It’s that easy!!!

Gum disease is closely related to Cardiac disease(heart attacks), strokes, diabetes and Alzhiemer’s. Play a role in your over all health. See your dentist and hygienist regular.

If you’re experiencing bleeding gums call our office. We will happily discuss your options and see if laser treatment is best for you.

While perfect thighs are next to impossible, a perfect smile is within everyone’s reach.

You’ve lived this long, you’ve earned it…

No doubt about it. We’re living longer, we’re living better. All that effort put into diet and exercise is paying off. And while you’re going through your paces on the treadmill, do consider another part of you that might need a bit of improvement: your smile.

With age, one of the first things to go is the freshness of your smile. At about thirty, tooth color begins to dim. There is a natural tendency for dentin—just beneath the enamel—to yellow. And if you smoke or overindulge in coffee or cola, darkening can be dramatic. Exercise and low-fat foods count for less if your smile gives you away.

But just as our health habits have improved, so has cosmetic dental technology. Now we have the tools and techniques to perfect the color—and so the healthful look—of your teeth.

Tooth whitening systems take many forms. There are gels and solutions accelerated by light; the laser is coming into use to “jump-start” the whitening process.  We can change color fast or over time.

In any case, the result is visible in days and, with touch-ups, will last as long as you do.

While perfect thighs are next to impossible, a perfect smile is within everyone’s reach. Go for it—don’t let your smile age faster than the rest of you.

Green Tea Helps Fight Gum Disease

Posted on: January 31st, 2012 by Respect Your Mouth No Comments

Green Tea appears to help fight gum disease. Green tea’s ability to help reduce symptoms of periodontal disease may be due to the presence of the antioxidant catechin. Drink up every one! There are many other benefits to green tea as well…fights cancer and been known to help fight cardiovascular disease.  That cup of tea is a good thing.

No, No, don’t worry about the staining. It can be polished off by your hygienist. Since it is an external stain to the teeth you will maintain your pearly whites!

“Silver” “Mercury” “Amalgam” Fillings Linked to Gum Disease and Oral Cancer

Posted on: January 31st, 2012 by Respect Your Mouth No Comments

I came across these articles recently and though they may be a few years old, its something that has been known scientifically for years and are pertinent today.

Summary: Amalgam fillings contain 50% mercury. The toxic effects of the mercury leak into the gum tissue and mouth. The gum tissue becomes inflamed and the toxins from the mercury and bacteria destroy the gums. At the same time the toxic vapors of the mercury from the fillings spread to other parts of the mouth leaving it more vulnerable to to oral cancer.
